Before asking for a retail fixture pickup, separate freestanding pieces from anything fixed to a wall, floor, or counter. A clear inventory helps prevent damage to the space and avoids removing something the landlord or next tenant expects to keep.

First, confirm ownership

Check the lease, move-out instructions, or landlord’s written direction for shelves, counters, signage mounts, and backroom storage. Do not assume that a fixture installed by a tenant can be removed without approval. Put “stays” and “goes” labels on items only after the authorized person has made that decision.

Walk the space in zones

List the sales floor, stockroom, receiving area, and any exterior storage separately. For each zone, photograph the fixture groups and count the large pieces. A provider needs to know if a display is bolted down, wired, glass-fronted, or too wide for the exit. Removal of attached or powered items may require work outside a hauling crew’s scope.

  • Which fixtures are freestanding?
  • Which need qualified disconnection or detachment?
  • Who reserves the loading dock or freight elevator?
  • What time may a truck park and load?
  • Are there fragile finishes or neighboring businesses along the route?

Handle the deadline realistically

Build in time to clear merchandise, paperwork, and personal property before the pickup. Send the inventory early enough for the provider to assess the load and access. A closing date does not by itself confirm a removal appointment.

Washington workplace guidance notes that moving bulky materials can involve overexertion and struck-by hazards. Flag heavy or unstable fixtures for a job-specific plan rather than asking store staff to shift them first. OSHA warehousing hazards and solutions (U.S.; checked September 25, 2026).

Use the list to discuss retail fixture removal. If the project includes mixed contents throughout the unit, the property cleanout inventory guide may be more useful. Send the scope when the authorized person is ready.
